THE ‘SEED’

Our submission aims to reflect the built environment of Hong Kong, the Chinese word “Hong Kong” literally translates to “Fragrant Harbour”, a name stemming from the city’s incense trading past where aroma incense spread across the ports of Hong Kong. Over the years the term “Fragrant” remains closely relevant to the city. This sensory impact has since became regional through the distribution of smaller towns and districts where its aroma directly reflects the immediate built environment. From the rich pungent smell of dried seafood in Sheung Wan; through the constant aromatic vapors in Wong Tai Sin; to the familiar smell of gasoline upon the Star Ferries and much more.
The final form of our installation depict an ‘organ-like’ composition reflecting the organic evolution of Hong Kong while providing a sense of life through its pulse like contraction. To be known as ‘The Seed’, symbolically meaning the birth and the beginning, while channeling the constant “alchemist-Like” evolution and growth of the city.
